CHICAGO – Missouri State track and field finished in ninth place with 16 points at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Monday in Chicago.
Â
The Bears' final day in the windy city was highlighted by a pair of finals appearances. Freshman
Olivia Rogers placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.60 seconds. The Dearborn, Mo. native was .08 of a second behind the third-place finisher and was the sole freshman to qualify for the event.
Â
Whitney Farrington also earned a trip to the finals in the 400-meter dash. Farrington set a personal record when she finished the race with a time of 56.30 and she was one of two sophomores to qualify for the finals.
Â
Fifth-year
Brooke Jenkins wrapped up her final indoor meet of her collegiate career with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with an attempt of 11.02 meters. Freshman
Kambree Gibson set a new personal record in the event with an attempt of 10.70 meters.
Â
The Bears' final event of the day was the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Rogers,
Victory Ifah,
Seleena Morris and Farrington placed sixth in the relay with a time of 3:51.53. MoState was four seconds faster than seventh-place Bradley.
Â
"It certainly wasn't the season we had hoped for, but our focus at the championships was the find positives that we could use to take to the outdoor season, and I think we accomplished that," head coach
Jordan Fife said. "We're a very young and inexperienced team and there were a lot of lessons learned this weekend to help us moving forward."
Â
Missouri State track and field will have close to a month off before kicking off the outdoor season with a home meet, the Missouri State Invitational, on March 22.
