VALPARAISO, Ind. – Missouri State hit three home runs and got five strong innings from
Reece Lang on the way to a series sweep of Valparaiso Sunday, winning 6-1 in a game that was delayed twice in the seventh inning due to lightning and eventually called with one out in the bottom of the frame.
The Bears (17-18, 3-6 Missouri Valley Conference) gave Lang more than enough offense when
Grant Wood and
Drake Baldwin hit back-to-back homers in the third inning for a 3-0 lead, the fifth time this season the Bears have blasted consecutive long balls.
Lang (1-2) matched his career high with five innings in the start, yielding two hits and an unearned run while striking out five in his first win as a Bear.
A wind-blown fly ball was dropped by the Bears in the fourth and Valpo (13-22, 2-7) capitalized with an RBI double for its only run, and
Dakota Kotowski answered with a two-run homer in the fifth, his fourth of the weekend, 18th of the season and 38th of his career to tie Ben Carlson for ninth in school history.
Wood added an RBI single in the sixth to cap the scoring.

The Bears are home for a pair of midweek games, facing Missouri at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Saint Louis at the same time Wednesday. Tuesday is Alumni Night at Hammons Field, with $4 tickets available for Missouri State graduates.
