WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Missouri State track and field team continued its season here Friday afternoon, turning out several top performances and lifetime bests at the Mule Relays.
"We finally had some decent weather and had a lot of people take advantage of that," said head coach Jordan Fife. "More so than season bests or lifetime bests, what we're seeing is our athletes now consistently performing at new levels which bodes well for later in the season."
Calandra Henry once again displayed her talents for MSU, racing to first place in the event finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.76. The lifetime best trumps her previous personal record of 11.84 set in the first meet of the outdoor season.
In the 800-meter run, Edna Dar raced a 2:11.42, collecting the win in her first outdoor appearance in the event this season. The lifetime best beats her previous mark of 2:12.51 which she earned at the MVC Outdoor Championships in 2021. Claudrice McKoy narrowly missed the top three for the Bears in the event, finishing fourth, but clocking a personal best of 2:13.42.
"Calandra ran a great final to snag a lifetime best and Edna ran strong from the front for a nice win in the 800," continued Fife. "We moved some people around today and lowered the workload a bit for some as well."
Leading the Bears' distance efforts was Sierra Williams, finishing in fourth place out of a competitive field of 57 athletes. Williams improved on her lifetime best by nearly five seconds, clocking a 4:32.88. In the 5,000-meter run, Shelby Palmer earned a spot in the top-10, finishing in sixth place (17:53.91). Margo Nea and Natalie Clayton made strides in the distance race as well, finishing with lifetime bests of 18:22.65 and 18:52.84, respectively.
Rochelle Etienne continued her success in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 14.62. In the long hurdles, Meghan Halstead finished sixth with a season-best time of 1:05.81.
For the second-straight meet, Jaide Rose led the Bears' efforts in the javelin. Her throw of 42.25 meters earned her a runner-up finish in a deep field of athletes.
The Bears were also competitive in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing in third place behind Missouri Western and Emporia State after racing a 48.49.
"I was proud of the way we competed today from the first event all the way through the 5k at the end where we had some big breakthroughs," finished Fife.
MSU will be back in action next weekend at the Pittsburgh State Tune-Up when the Bears travel to Pittsburgh, Kan., on Saturday, April 23.
