Track and Field to Compete in Two-Day Gorilla Classic

February 10, 2022

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's track and field team will be back in action this weekend as the Bears travel to Pittsburgh, Kan., to compete in the two-day Gorilla Classic on Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12.

Pittsburgh State University will host the seventh annual indoor meet, which will feature athletes from over 60 schools in the area. The Bears have 45 individual entries for the weekend classic, along with two relays set to compete.

MSU is coming off a two-week break following its participation in the Jayhawk Classic on Jan. 28, where the team captured three individual event titles along with a first-place finish in the distance medley.

Madison Meredith led the way for the Bears, racing her way to two first-place finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. In the 60-meter dash, Meredith raced a season-best 7.38 against a competitive field to capture the title. In the 200-meter, she recorded a time of 24.93 seconds, also a season-best time. Wynter Ramos and Calandra Henry finished in the top five for the Bears in the same event, with Ramos capturing third (25.46) and Henry finishing in fourth place (26.02).

Edna Dar and Sierra Williams garnered success in MSU's distance events, both running sub-five-minute miles to finish in first and third place in the one-mile race with times of 4:56.94 and 4:57.40, respectively.

Tamia Emerson also looks to build on her performance in Lawrence, after narrowly missing a top-three fiish with a triple jump distance of 11.17 meters.

After capturing a first-place finish in the distance medley, the same team of Dar, Williams, Ashley Rolewicz and Claudrice McKoy will look to build on their winning time of 12:15.93.

Friday's session will begin with field events at 2 p.m., followed by the races starting at 3 p.m. Saturday's first session will kick off at 11 a.m.
