January 28, 2022

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Missouri State women's track and field team wrapped up its second indoor competition of the season here, Friday afternoon, as several Bears turned out strong performances at the Jayhawk Classic.

Competing in a nine-team field in Lawrence, Kan., MSU captured three individual event titles along with a first-place finish in the distance medley.

For the second-straight week, Madison Meredith led the way for the Bears, sprinting to two individual titles. In the 60-meter dash against a competitive, 30-person field, Meredith recorded a time of 7.46 to earn a place in the finals where she raced a season-best 7.38 to earn the event title. Later in the day, the senior sprinter also captured a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93. In the same event, freshman Wynter Ramos ended the day in third place (25.46), while Calandra Henry rounded out the top-four (26.02).

On the distance side of things, Edna Dar paced the Bears in the mile, beating her strong first performance of the season by five seconds and finishing first in the event with a time of 4:56.94. Sierra Williams was close behind, finishing third while running a 4:57.40, 10 seconds better than the previous week.

"Today was another productive day with plenty of improvements from a week ago," said head coach Jordan Fife. "Madison and Edna continued their winnings ways. Both are racing as strong as ever."

In the 60-meter hurdles, MSU saw three Bears advance to the finals, with Rochelle Etienne picking up a fifth-place finish in the event with a time of 9.37, less than a second off the top-finisher.

In a deep long jump field, Rachel Lacey, Mia Emerson and Nakaja Weaver finished in sixth through eighth place with jumps of 5.03, 5.03 and 4.99 meters, respectively. Emerson also recorded a jump of 11.17 meters in the triple jump, finishing the event in fourth place after narrowly missing the top three.

The MSU distance group ended the day with a collective title, finishing first in the women's distance medley. A team made up of Williams, Dar, Ashley Rolewicz and Claudrice McKoy finished ahead of the University of Kansas' relay team with a time of 12:15.93. The Bears' 4X4 teams finished in fourth and sixth place with times of 4:03.45 and 4:16.72, respectively.

Next up for Missouri State will be the MSSU Lion Multi, where several Bears will compete on Friday, Feb. 4. The rest of the team will be back in action at the Feb. 11-12 event hosted by Pittsburgh State University
