MSU Women’s Swimming and Diving Set for MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Missouri State women's swimming and diving team will close out the 2020-21 season Wednesday through Friday (April 14-16) at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Carbondale, Ill.
The Bears have won four straight MVC titles and captured the league title in 12 of the last 13 seasons. Missouri State will be challenged by host Southern Illinois, Indiana State, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Valparaiso, Little Rock and Evansville.
Meet Details
- The meet will run April 14-16 with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening of each day.

Bear Bites
- The Bears is looking to make it five-straight MVC Championships when they take the water at the 2021 championships. Last year MSU was dominant, amassing 826.50 points over four days which was the most since 2016-17. The title marked the program's fourth straight and 12th in the past 13 years. The duo of Libby Howell and Anna Miller combined to win six of the Bears' seven crowns.
- The duo of Howell and Miller are back now as seniors and have been dominant thus far. Howell has leads the Bears with 11 individual wins this season while Miller has nine.
- Howell has been one of the most decorated swimmers in MSU history amassing 17 gold medals at the MVC Championships.
- Over Miller's three MVC championships she has 13 golds and three silvers.
- Missouri State holds 12 top-times among all events including three top-times among the relay events. Libby Howell leads the conference with four top-times while Anna Miller is right behind with three top-times.
- In diving action Ashley Yarbrough has been phenomenal this year for the Bears, winning all seven of her eight of her diving events she has participated in.
- Yarbrough and Dayana Popa both have reach zone-qualifying cuts this season, Yarbrough has qualified on both boards while Popa achieved a zone-cut on the 3-meter boards back on Feb. 13 against Little Rock.
- Overall, Missouri State has combined to win seven MVC weekly honors as Yarbrough has garnered three while Howell and Miller both have two apiece.
- Last time out MSU was victorious over Xavier and Indiana State during its duals over March 19-20. Grace Beahan (400 IM) and Sydney Radloff (100 fly) both recorded personal bests.
- The Bears set a pair of pool records in the relays at SIU in the 400 medley relay squad of Howell, Yuliya Zubina, Roemer and Miller took first with a pool-record time of 3:42.68 on day one. While the same group set the 200 medley relay on day two winning the event in 1:40.90. (March 6)
- All-MVC returnees include Howell, Miller, Yarbrough, Beahan, Popa, Radloff, Alex Thorson, Alessia Puleo, Ellie Southward, Sam Hietpas, Madison Brown and Kellie Fischer.
- MSU was unanimously selected as MVC favorites in the preseason poll, collecting all eight first-place votes.
Coach Dave Collins
- Dave Collins (Drury, 2005) is in his 10th season as Missouri State head coach.
- Collins garnered Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2019-20.
- Under Collins watch, the Bears have won eight MVC conference titles.
- Last year, Collins engineered an unforgettable campaign, earning the Bears' fourth-straight Valley title and 16th overall, the MSU women ran away with the crown after winning seven individual and three relay events to finish with 826.50 points..
- As head coach, Collins and the Bears' staff have produced 36 All-MVC first team selections. Collins has also coached three conference swimmers of the year, a list that includes Dora Kiss (2016, 12), Lauren Pavel (2015, 17) and Renata Sander (2011-14). Academically, with team GPAs of 3.0 or higher, both Bear squads have annually earned CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors.
- Since his arrival at Missouri State, the Bears have broken every men's and women's school record in the non-freestyle events.
- Before becoming head coach, Collins served as an assistant for four seasons at Missouri State under MSU Hall of Famer Jack Steck.
