SPRINGFIELD – After an 11-day layoff, The Missouri State swimming and diving teams are back in action when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete at the Purdue Invitational on Nov. 18-20.
Meet Details
- The three-day meet will be held at the Doris Z. Holloway Pool in West Lafayette, Ind.
- The meet will consist of the prelims starting at 9 a.m. all three days. The finals will begin at 5 p.m. on all three days.
- Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile app, which is downloadable through the app store.
- Live diving results can be found at the Meet Control website.
- Diving events will start at 5:15 on the first two days.
- Mask are required for all spectators.

Not Our First Rodeo
- Missouri State has more appearances than any other visiting school at the Purdue Invitational with eight. The Purdue Invitational debuted in 2003 and has been held in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2019. The Bears have only missed the 2003 and 2019 editions.
- Joining the Bears and invitational hosts Purdue in the nine-team field is Florida International, Illinois State, Indiana State, Louisville, McKendree College, Navy and Northwestern.
Women's Bear Bites
- In their last meet out, the Bears defeated Indiana State, 221-132 on Nov. 5-6.
- Missouri State was dominant in relay action, picking up wins in the 400 freestyle, 200 medley, 400 medley, and 200 freestyle relays.
- Libby Howell won the 1,000 freestyle (10:04.9), 200 freestyle (1:54.28) and 500 freestyle (5:05.55).
- Anna Miller posted wins in the 100 freestyle (51.05), 50 freestyle (23.39) and 100 butterfly (56.27).
- Alessia Puleo was impressive as the Cambiago, Italy, product won both the 100 (1:06.18) and 200 backstrokes (2:22.01).
- Kelly Sego won the 400 IM by registering a time of 4:24.70. She also placed third in both the 100 (56.90) and 200 (2:07.50) backstrokes.
- Payton Smith continued her impressive freshman campaign by winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.98. Smith also clocked a 4:31.79 to take third in the 400 IM.
- Sami Roemer won the 200 IM by swimming a 2:08.28. Roemer also took second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.30.
- Adrianna Avila paced the Bears on both boards by placing second in 1-meter diving (239.40) and third in 3-meter competition (243.52).
- The Bears defeated South Dakota and fell to Kansas in the Kansas Tri-Duals on Oct. 22-23 in Lawrence, Kan.
- Missouri State placed fifth against a strong tournament field at the TYR Invitational on Oct. 9 with a score of 247 points.
- The Bears have been in a league of its own when it comes to conference championships, having won 17 of the last 19 MVC titles.
Howell About That
- Libby Howell collected MVC Swimmer of the Week honors on November 10, after her three individual wins in the Bears' 221-132 win over Indiana State on Nov. 5-6.
- Howell is the only MVC swimmer to go a perfect 12-for-12 in her career and she currently holds school records in the 200, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles.
Miller Time
- Anna Miller has continued her success this season, having already garnered seven individual wins.
- She collected MVC Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 13 after posting two top-three finishes against tough competition at the TYR Invitational in Miami, Fla. In Miami, Miller won the 50 freestyle with a blistering time of 23.32. The mark was just off the pool record and the 11th-fastest among all mid-major collegiate swimmers this year.
- Miller holds the MVC best time of 23.32 in the 50 freestyle.
Men's Bear Bites
- In their last dual, the Bears were dominant, defeating Missouri S&T, 211.5-102.5, on Nov. 5-6.
- MSU tallied victories in the 400 freestyle, 200 medley, 400 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
- Arthur Cury recorded individual wins in the 100 butterfly (51.16), 200 IM (1:52.85) and 100 freestyle (45.88).
- Dylan Moffatt dominated the men's 1,000 freestyle, winning with a pool record-breaking performance of 9:06.91. The time was the 25th-fastest among all collegiate swimmers this season.
- AJ Huskey won the 400 IM with a time of 3:58.05, which was the 43rd-fastest time nationally this season. He also clocked a 1:51.25 to the 200 butterfly.
- Michael Hampel was victorious in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with times of 57.26 and 2:06.04.
- Brunno Suzuki won the 200 freestyle (1:41.20) and took third in the 200 IM (1:54.30).
- Pawel Krawczyk won the 500 freestyle (4:34.47) and recorded second-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (9:15.03), 200 freestyle (1:43.74) and 200 butterfly (1:51.47).
- Krawczyk holds the MVC-best in the 500 freestyle (4:31.40) and Moffatt holds a conference-best time in the 1,000 freestyle (9:11.64).
- Missouri State defeated South Dakota in the Kansas Duals, 174-158, on Oct. 23.
- John David Spence has led MSU on the boards this season with bests of 258.90 (1-Meter) and 322.65 (3-Meter).
- The Bears defeated Southern Illinois in the season opener on Oct. 2, 205.5-145.5.
Arthur Awarded
- Arthur Cury was named MAC swimmer of the week on Oct. 29. Cury recorded three wins in a two-day dual against South Dakota on Oct. 22-23. On day one, the Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, native won the 200 freestyle with a blistering time of 1:42.36, as well as the 200 IM, finishing the event in 1:55.19. Cury added a third victory to his weekend with a win in the 100 butterfly on the final day of the dual, clocking in at 51.10. He also helped lead the men's 400 meter relay squad to victory with a time of 3:06.45. Cury is a two-time all-MAC first-team selection, having garnered five gold medals, four silvers and one bronze at the MAC Championships during his career.
Coach Dave Collins
- Dave Collins (Drury, 2005) is in his 11th season as Missouri State head coach.
- Collins garnered Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2021.
- Under Collins' watch, the Bears have won nine MVC titles and three MAC championships.
- In 2020-21, Collins guided the women to their fifth-straight Valley title and 17th overall. The MSU women ran away with the crown after winning seven individual and three relay events to finish with 929.50 points. The Bears' 381-point margin of victory was a program best. The MSU men finished second at the MAC Championships, claiming 10 conference champion citations throughout the meet. Michael Claunch qualified for the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships for the third time on both the 1-and-3 meter boards.
- As head coach, Collins and the Bears' staff have produced 45 all-MVC first team selections and 22 all-MAC first-teamers. Collins has also coached six conference swimmers of the year, a list that includes Anna Miller (2021), Dora Kiss (2016, '12), Lauren Pavel (2015, '17), Renata Sander (2011-14) and Uvis Kalnins (2014). Academically, with team GPAs of 3.0 or higher, both Bear squads have annually earned CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors.
- Since his arrival at Missouri State, the Bears have broken all men's and women's school records in the non-freestyle events.
- Collins has taken the Bears' recruiting efforts to new heights. He and his coaching staff are responsible for signing Missouri State's first top-100 recruit: 2012 Olympian Uvis Kalnins of Latvia. CollegeSwimming.com listed Kalnins as the No. 68 overall swimmer in the 2012 recruiting class.
- Before becoming head coach, Collins served as an assistant for four seasons at Missouri State under MSU Hall of Famer Jack Steck.
