
Swimming and Diving Completes Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Missouri State swimming and diving programs posted top-five finishes at the Purdue Invitational on Saturday night at the Doris Z. Holloway Pool.Â

"I'm really proud of the way the team performed this weekend," head coach Dave Collins said. "We had a lot of stuff to get excited about. We also had the opportunity to learn a lot about the group."

The men finished in fourth place with 368 points while the women placed fifth with 375 points.

Highlights of the morning preliminary session included Anna Miller's second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.84. Pawel Krawczyk (1:46.07) and AJ Huskey (1:47.33) finished the men's 200 butterfly in fourth and seventh place, respectively.

To start finals action, MSU went 13-15 in the women's 200 backstroke. Kellie Fischer led the way with a time of 2:02.29. She was followed by Vera Margula (2:02.75) and Kelly Sego (2:02.96). In the men's 200 backstroke, Robbie Hill led the way by clocking a 1:46.27 to place fifth.

Miller bested her preliminary time by .14 seconds in the women's 100 freestyle to place second with a time of 48.70. Following Miller was Jordan Wenner, who clocked a 50.34 to garner a ninth-place finish. Arthur Cury finished 14th in the men's 100 freestyle with a time of 44.75.

Alessia Puleo recorded a top-10 finish in the women's 200 breaststroke by registering a time of 2:14.74. Brunno Suzuki paced the men in the 200 breaststroke as the freshman clocked a 2:00.76 to take 12th place.Â

In the women's 200 butterfly, Payton Smith placed 11th by registering a time of 2:01.93. AJ Huskey was impressive in the men's 200 butterfly as he clocked a 1:46.94 to take sixth.

Miller, Wenner, Libby Howell and Sami Roemer combined to swim the women's 400 freestyle relay in 3:20.82, good for fifth-place.Â

In the men's 400 freestyle relay, the Bears placed seventh courtesy of Robbie Hill, Cury, Bruno Guerra and Suzuki, registering a time of 2:58.40.

"I am looking forward to sitting down with the staff and evaluating each of our athletes to find ways to help them continue to improve as we move to a new phase of training and championship preparation," Collins added.

The Bears will be back in action on Dec. 4, when they host Mizzou at Hammons Student Center. Start time for the dual is set for Noon.
