Keeping Track of the Bears
  • Missouri State claimed three individual titles to boost the Bears to a second-place finish at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational last weekend (Jan. 24-25).  Edna Dar (Mile), Adyson Delaney (3,000m), and Jamilah James (Triple Jump) each earned top-marks in their events on Day Two of the meet.  Overall, MSU completed its second competition of the indoor season with 11 top-3 finishes.
  • Dar won her first career event as a Bear by posting a top time of 5:00.78 in the mile at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational.  She continued with her stellar day as she collected third-place honors in the 1,000-meter run (2:56.91).  James, who was last year's conference champion in the triple jump for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, came in first in the triple jump with her 11.49-meter jump.  Delaney (10:27.89) was the first of the three Bears' runners that went top-3 in the 3,000-meter race.
  • The Bears had 13 newcomers make their MSU debut at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 17.   Missouri State earned five top-10 finishes at Arkansas, highlighted by a second-place finish in the shot put from Kennedy Aurentz and a third-place showing by Jessica Haney in the high jump.
  • MSU's marks continue to rank near the top of the performance lists among other Missouri Valley Conference teams.  After converting for track size, Dar (4:57.84) is in the second spot among Valley milers.  Haney's leap of 1.70m in the high jump puts her fourth in the league while Malia Watkins ranks fourth in the 200m with her converted time of 24.55.  The MSU 4x400-meter relay team that posted a 3:54.10 at the Arkansas Invitational sits as fourth-best in the Valley.
  • This will be the third consecutive season Missouri State competes in the Pitt State Invitational.  Last year, the Bears finished the meet with three runner-up results, including senior Grace Breiten's second-place performance in the mile.  James posted a 5.67-meter mark to finish fourth in the long jump in the 2019 competition.
  • Head coach Jordan Fife is in his first season at the helm for Missouri State after serving as the interim coach last year which followed a five-year stint as an assistant.  This is his sixth season at MSU after being named the head cross country coach in 2014.
  • Missouri State was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference coaches' preseason poll.
