MANHATTAN, Kan. – Missouri State women's track and field continues the indoor season with the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, hosted by Kansas State from Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Jan. 24 with the women's pentathlon at 10:00 a.m. and will resume on Saturday, Jan. 25 with field events at 12:00 p.m. and running events at 12:30 p.m.
Keeping Track of the Bears
- Missouri State opened the 2019-20 indoor season with a strong showing at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 17. The Bears had 13 newcomers make their MSU debut in Fayetteville, Ark., joining the five returners for the season opener. MSU earned five top-10 finishes at Arkansas, highlighted by a second-place finish in the shot put from Kennedy Aurentz and a third-place performance by Jessica Haney in the high jump.
- The other top-10 finishes from the Arkansas Invitational included Jayda Buchannan placing sixth in the 600-meter run (1:38.01) as well as a ninth-place finish from Edna Dar in the 1,000-meter run (2:59.45). The Bears' 4x400-meter relay team of Buchannan, Chanice Forbes, Mackenzie Ihasz, and Malia Watkins turned in a 3:54.10 to finish third.
- MSU's marks from the opening meet boosted the Bears to rank near the top among other Missouri Valley Conference teams. Haney's leap of 1.70m in the high jump puts her second in the league while Watkins ranks fifth in the 200m with her 25.47 time. The MSU 4x400-meter relay team sits as second-best in the Valley with 11 seconds separating the Bears from UNI's top time of 3:53.59.
- This will be Missouri State's first time competing at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational as the Bears make one of their three trips to the Sunflower State this indoor season.
- The Bears' roster features a collection of fresh faces with 25 newcomers joining the squad to go along with the 16 returners that finished sixth at the MVC Indoor Championships last season.
- Head coach Jordan Fife is in his first season at the helm for Missouri State after serving as the interim coach last year which followed a five-year stint as an assistant. This is his sixth season at MSU after being named the head cross country coach in 2014.
- Missouri State was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference coaches' preseason poll.
