
Track & Field Bears Open Outdoor Season at ORU

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State track and field team opens up the 2019 outdoor season with a trip to the ORU Invitational this weekend (March 29-30) hosted at the Oneok Sports Complex in Tulsa, Okla. The two-day event will begin at 12 p.m. Friday with the hammer throw, while Saturday's festivities will start at 10 a.m. with the discus throw.

Keeping Track of the Bears
- For the second year in a row the Bears are making the trip to Tulsa for the ORU Invitational. In 2018, Missouri State took a tie for fourth place with 86 points, marking 10 top-five finishes, including three event titles.
- On the outdoor side the Bears return four All-Conference honorees from a season ago. Jamilah James (triple jump), Sidne' Williamson (long jump), Olivia Ott (heptathlon) and Rochelle Etienne (javelin) both finished in the top-three in the MVC Outdoor Championship last season.
- A total of 28 student-athletes are projected to compete in 17 events.
- A new era in Bears track and field has begun, with interim head coach Jordan Fife taking the reins, along with assistant coaches Carmelita Jeter and Jake Brydson.
- Fife came to MSU in 2014 and has been the Bears head cross country coach for the past five seasons, while also serving as an assistant track and field coach.
- The Bears their finished indoor season with a sixth place finish at the MVC Indoor Conference Championship.
