Dolling Crushes a Historic Hat Trick for the Soccer Bears

SPRINGFIELD – Josh Dolling unleashes an unbelievable night for the Missouri State men's soccer team, making history in the double overtime thriller, defeating Santa Clara 3-2, Monday night at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
 
Dolling recorded all three goals for the Bears, including the game winner at the 107-minute mark, finishing off the first hat trick game for a MSU athlete since September 9, 2005.
 
The sophomore recorded the first two goals in the opening period. The first coming from a soft serve from Kyle Hiebert in in the 27th minute. The second coming unassisted from 18 yards out, 36 minutes into the match.
 
Santa Clara tied it up in the second half with a pair of goals for themselves. Sakari Carter scored off a corner kick by the Broncos in the 52-minite, while Julian Bravo found the back of the net for the equalizer, with six minutes left in regulation.
 
As the match went into overtime, both teams stayed hot offensively with a total of seven shots attempted.
 
With three seconds left in the first overtime period the Bears where called for a penalty inside the goalie box, setting up a Santa Clara penalty kick.  Andres Jimenez lined up for the kick for the Broncos, but missed the attempt wide left.
 
The game winning goal by Dolling was his sixth of the season and was assisted by Dylan De Jong. De Jong served the ball over to Dolling, from the left side, for the decider.
 
The Bears as a team recorded 12 shots, while holding Santa Clara to nine. Goalkeeper Michael Creek recorded four saves on the day including the OT penalty kick.
 
The Bears will stay at home to face UMKC on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., before celebrating the 700th program game Sept. 22 against Valparaiso.
