Women's Golf Comes in 8th on Spring Break

Senior Verena Gimmy led the Bears to an eighth place finish at the Bradley Spring Break Invite at Brookhaven. Gimmy's two-over par 75 in the third round moved her up to 11th in the standings, just seven strokes behind the leaders. Her three birdies were the best on the team in round three to help counteract five bogies and finish with a total of 80-76-75--231. Rachel Johnson also saw improvement on day three as she shot a tournament low 78. The junior saw a nine spot jump in the standings to 28th after firing 79-79-78--236. Ashley Childers struggled late in the round on the front nine finishing with 80-75-82--237 and dropping to 31st on the leaderboard. Sophomore Ryan Pate rounded out the Bears lineup, carding 81-92-94--267. Competing as an individual, Niamh Lendrum had to withdraw after only eight holes. On top of the individual leaderboard, a three way tie for first saw golfers from Northern Illinois, Akron, and Houston Baptist each fire 224 over two days. Just three strokes separated the top five on the par 73 course.
 
In the team standings, Missouri State overtook UNC Asheville and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi to jump up to eighth place today. The Bears finished with rounds of 314-322-310--946 in the middle of the 16-team field. This marks the fourth top 10 finish in a row for the women's golf team starting at the MVC Fall Preview on Oct. 16-17. Houston Baptist came out on top at Brookhaven, shooting 909 over three rounds. Also in the top five were Akron (921), NIU (926), Cincinnati (935), and Wichita State (936).
