Bear Golfers Make a Move at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- After a shaky opening round, the Missouri State women's golf team bounced back in a big way Saturday (Feb. 21), climbing five spots to sixth place in the team standings after 36 holes at the Rio Verde Invitational. 

Led by senior Kiser Pannier and junior Kyleigh Pfitzner, the Bears posted a 16-shot improvement from the previous day with a four-over-par 292 team total, giving them 600 for two rounds on the Quail Run Course at Rio Verde Country Club. Pannier fired a one-under 71 while Pfitzner was a shot behind at even-par 72. Junior Tierney Baumstark added a 74 and junior Coyee Zhang a 75, while freshman Chloe Bolte tallied 78 in the second round.

Pfitzner sits in a tie for sixth overall with a 147 total after her opening 75. Pannier moved up 44 spots and is tied for 28th at 151, while Baumstark and Zhang are tied for 34th at 152, and Bolte is tied for 62nd with a 156 total.

Xavier leads in the team race at 585 with Bradley second with 591. Bowling Green (595), Wichita State (597) and Ball State (599) round out the top five in the 19-team field, just ahead of the Bears.

Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. Mountain time start.
