Bears Finish Third, Pfitzner Fourth at Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- The Missouri State women's golf team mounted a furious rally for the second day in a row Sunday (Feb. 22) and finished third at the Rio Verde Invitational.

After struggling to an opening-round 308 on Friday and finding themselves in 11th place, the Bears moved up five spots in the second round and another three spots in Sunday's final round to finish third in the 19-team field. MoState shot 308-292-293--893 in three trips around the Quail Run Course at Rio Verde Country Club. 

The Bears were led throughout by junior Kyleigh Pfitzner, who tied for fourth in her best collegiate finish, carding 75-72-72--219, three-over-par. Junior Coyee Zhang was second on the team and tied for 18th overall after shooting 77-75-72--224, with senior Kiser Pannier and junior Tierney Baumstark close behind in a tie for 22nd with 226 totals. Pannier had 80-71-75 and Baumstark posted 78-74-74. Freshman Chloe Bolte shot 78-78-76--232 to tie for 50th.

Bradley captured the team title with an 885 total for 54 holes, while Xavier was second at 889. The Bears and Bowling Green tied for third and Wichita State and Ball State tied for fifth.

MSU is idle now for two weeks before the Magnolia Collegiate in Mobile, Ala., Mar. 16-17.
