Capping off an outstanding season opener, junior
Brad Carpenter took first in the individual standings of the Sam Hall Invitational. Taking the 6,902 yard course in stride, Carpenter went 73-69-69--211 over two days to take the lead in round three, marking his lowest three round score as a Bear. Four birdies in the back nine was just enough to pull ahead of the number two spot by one point. Also putting up a competitive third round,
Kory Franks fired off tournament total of 71-72-71--214 to tie for eighth.
Adam Fisher improved on his round two score to shoot 72 for a total of 218.
In the team standings, Missouri State maintained its fifth place hold with 290-289-285--864, seven strokes behind the top team, Sam Houston State. Sam Houston State overtook host Southern Mississippi for the lead in the third round by matching their round one scores for 285-287-285--857 and won the tournament after a team playoff with UT Arlington. UT Arlington came in second also with 857. Host Southern Mississippi finished third and UTSA landed fourth to round out the top five.
The golf Bears are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech starting at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
