Track and Field Bears Post Strong Final Day at Tom Botts Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri State track and field team extended their momentum to the final day of the Tom Botts Invitational, hosted the University of Missouri, by collecting 11 top-5 finishes. The Bears netted 105 points to finish fourth.

Junior Marissa Kurtimah collected gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.55 seconds and silver in the 200-meter dash after posting a time of 23.71. Taryn Smiley netted new personal bests in the same events, tallying a time of 11.92 in the 100-meter dash and 24.52 in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

Maya Genard picked up a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.28 and was fifth in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 12.04 seconds.

Senior Shani Adams took the bronze in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.52. Adams also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 24.68, a new personal best.

Cindy Forde shaved off 0.12 on her personal best time in the 800-meter run to post a time of 2:12.57 and finish sixth.

Senior Holly Pattie-Belleli took third in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.74 seconds, while freshman Chicago Bains finished fifth and netted a new personal best time of 14.14.

In field events, Melanie Raterman took second in the javelin throw with a distance of 38.58 meters. Raterman also missed resetting her personal best distance in the shot put by two centimeters after turning in a distance of 11.98 meters.

Sophomore Olivia Ott reset her personal best distance in the shot put with 9.57 meters and in the javelin with 28.25 meters.

The Bears are back in action at the John Jacobs Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 21-22) in Norman, Okla.
