Women's Golf Wraps Golfweek Challenge on High Note

WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Missouri State women's golf team wrapped its biggest fall event with a solid outing Wednesday, posting an impressive round of 298 over the final 18 holes of the 54-hole Golfweek Conference Challenge here to improve to 16th place.
 
The Bears' performance Wednesday was one stroke better than eventual champion San Diego State and shaved seven strokes off the team's second-round score of 305. MSU improved each round of the tournament after logging a 329 on Monday and rallying strong over the last 36 holes.
 
SDSU finished the three day event with scores of 287-280-299—866 to outdistance Denver (874), Pepperdine (874), Old Dominion (881), Washington State (881) and Tennessee (881) among the leaders in the field of 18 squads at Red Sky Golf Club.
 
Missouri State was led by transfer Rachel Johnson (80-76-76—232) who tied for 67th place with a final-round 76 and three-round total of 232. All five Bears carded rounds in the 70s on Wednesday, including even-par 72 efforts from sophomore Ashley Childers and junior Verena Gimmy.
 
Childers (84-77-72—233) tied for 69th in the field of 90 individuals, matching teammate Lindsey Eisenreich (81-73-79—233). Gimmy (84-79-72—235) improved each round to tie for 72nd, while freshman Ryan Pate (85-79-78—242) ended with a solid effort to tie for 83rd.
 
Coach Kevin Kane's Bears return to action Oct. 3-4 at the Missouri Valley Preview Tournament, before heading to the Memphis Fall Intercollegiate, Oct. 17-18.
