Slow Start for Bears at NGI

Day One Results

MARICOPA, Ariz. -- The Missouri State women's golf team struggled out of the gate Friday (May 15) in the first round of the National Golf Invitational sponsored by Golfweek. Making their first post-season appearance in three years, the Bears managed just a 306 team score and are in ninth place after the first round at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

The trio of Kiser Pannier, Tierney Baumstark and Chloe Bolte shot 76 each and are tied for 24th place, while Coyee Zhang carded 78 and Marlee Edgeman had 80 to open the tournament. 

Wyoming bolted out to the first-day lead with a one-under-par 287, nine better than Rutgers and Bradley. Denver and Stetson are tied for fourth at 298, with Lipscomb (301), Mercer (303), Bowling Green (304), the Bears and Coastal Carolina (307) rounding out the standings.

Second-round play is scheduled for 6:45 a.m. local time Saturday.
