FRISCO, Texas -- The Missouri State women's golf team is in eighth place after the first round of the Energy Transfer Conference USA Championship at Stonebriar Country Club. The Bears shot 299 on Monday (Apr. 20) in their first-ever CUSA Tournament and, despite being in eighth place, are just four shots from third in a tightly-bunched field.
Western Kentucky has the early lead after posting 288, four better than Sam Houston (292) and seven in front of Florida International (295). Then just three shots separate Middle Tennessee (296), Jacksonville State (296), New Mexico State (298), Delaware (298) and the Bears. Kennesaw State (303) and UTEP (314) are ninth and 10th, respectively.
Junior
Coyee Zhang paved the way for MoState with an even-par 72 on the Fazio Course at Stonebriar, placing her in a tie for sixth, just two off the lead. Senior
Kiser Pannier carded a 74 and is tied for 16th, while junior
Kyleigh Pfitzner shot 76 and is tied for 27th. Junior
Tierney Baumstark and freshman
Chloe Bolte each shot 77, good for 30th place.
Second-round play is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
