MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Missouri State women's golf team ran into some tough competition at the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate and completed the 54-hole event Tuesday with an 12th-place finish.
 
The Bears carded rounds of 315-312-313--940 to finish 45 strokes behind team champion and tournament host Memphis (300-298-297--895). Houston Baptist (912), Murray State (913), Florida International (915) and Chattanooga (921) rounded out the top five in the field of 13 team entries.
 
Individually, Cal State Fullerton's Martina Edberg (69-72-70--211) claimed medalist honors with her two-under-par performance, while Florida International's Camila Serrano was runner-up, seven strokes off the lead.
 
Missouri State's top finisher was junior Verena Gimmy who tied for 19th in the field of 73 individuals with rounds of 75-80-75--230. Bears' senior Caroline Boone (78-77-77--232) also performed well on the course at Ridgeway Country Club with a 29th-place showing and three rounds in the 70s.
 
Coach Kevin Kane's squad will complete its fall season at the Little Rock Classic, Oct. 30 through Dec. 1 in Hot Springs Village, Ark.
