Young Named to Valley Academic Golf Team

Missouri State senior Daily Young has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team for the 2012-13 season.

Young is a first-time honoree and one of seven student-athletes who were recognized on the first team following a vote of the MVC sports information directors.

A Springfield, Mo. native, Young sports a 3.30 grade-point average while majoring in Parks and Recreation Administration. He also was named an All-American Scholar after last season by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

On the course, Young concluded his collegiate career last month as MSU's leader in career scoring average, compiling a 74.04 mark in three seasons after transferring from Coastal Carolina. He was a two-time all-Valley selection and was named MVC Newcomer of the Year in 2011.

Young was joined on the first team by Rafael Becker of Wichita State, Jake Erickson of Southern Illinois, Evansville's Quinn Vilneff, Drake's Devin Leland, UNI's Braden Gaal and Bradley's Daniel Young.

MVC scholar-athlete nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
