Results

WICHITA, Kan. - Kimsue Grant, Althia Maximilien and Shavonne Husbands picked up individual victories here Saturday (April 13) to lead the track and field Bears on day two of the K.T. Woodman Classic.

Grant's victory came in the triple jump, as the senior leaped to a distance of 12.51 meters -- a season-best time for the Bears -- to pace the field. Freshman Robiann Broomfield also posted a strong performance in the triple, as she posted a personal-best distance of 12.45 meters to earn a third-place finish.

Husbands got her victory in the 100-meter dash preliminary round with a time that tied her personal best, 11.59 seconds. However, the freshman shattered that personal best in the finals, as she crossed the finish line in 11.52 seconds for a third-place spot.

Maximilien, a sophomore, won the 200-meter dash in 24.28 seconds. She narrowly edged seven other competitors who also clocked times below 25 seconds. Broomfield raced to a time of 26.06 seconds in her debut in that event.

In all, five Missouri State student-athletes earned personal-best times or distances. Junior thrower Jessica Dantin was especially impressive, as she racked up new personal and MSU season-best distances in the shot put and discus. Dantin was 11th place in the discus with a mark of 40.79 meters, and 21st in the shot put (10.68 meters).

A trio of freshmen competed in the 400-meter dash. Oarabile Babolayi earned a top-10 finish by placing ninth in 57.60 seconds. Meanwhile, Chelsie Horton was 25th in 1:00.44 and Josie Dyke posted a personal-best time of 1:03.06 and placed 35th.

Freshman Cindy Forde posted a strong showing in her outdoor debut in the 800-meter run by finishing eighth in 2:19.79.

Missouri State will return to action on Saturday (April 20) at the Ole Miss Open in Oxford, Miss. That event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
