The Missouri State women's golf team placed third Tuesday (Sept. 27) at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. The Bears posted 299-305-303--907 in three trips around the Colbert Hills Golf Club and finished just two shots behind host Kansas State, which shot 300-299-306--905.
Arkansas-Little Rock led wire-to-wire, shooting 292-298-301--891 to claim the team title. UALR also had the medalist, Malin Lundberg, who fired 70-70-77--217.
Senior Kelsey Welber led the way for MSU, tying for fourth after shooting 75-72-74--221 and earning her sixth straight top-10 finish. Senior Catherine Dolan had her second top-10 in as many outings, tying for eighth with 74-78-73--225. Junior Hermine Greyling posted 74-74-81--229 to tie for 13th while junior Emma Clegg was 27th with 76-81-77--234. Freshman Megan Thompson shot 88-83-79--250 and tied for 61st.
In the team race, Oral Roberts moved up a spot on the final day to finish fourth, four behind the Bears at 911. Next came Kansas with 921, followed by UMKC (923), Wichita State (940), Arkansas State (949), Indiana State and South Dakota State (954), Bradley (955) and Creighton (968).
Next up for the Bears is the Johnie Imes Invitational next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 3-4) in Columbia, Mo.
