Junior Jack Courington fired a nine-under-par 63 Sunday (Mar. 7) to lead the Missouri State men's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the 23-team USF Invitational in Dade City, Fla. Courington's round at Lake Jovita Country Club is a new school record, breaking the old mark of 65 shared by Todd Laney (2005), Jason Whitesell (1998) and Jon Rogers (1998). He was tied for 53rd entering the final round, but moved up to a sixth-place tie with his record-setting round, finishing the tournament with 73-76-63--212, four-under-par.
As a team, MSU shot 296-300-284--880 and moved up three spots Sunday. Florida Southern College captured the team title with 288-281-283--852, five better than second-place Middle Tennessee State, which shot 288-286-283--857.
For the Bears, senior Jay McBride was next following Courington, shooting 73-77-73--223 to tie for 50th. Senior Ryan Weinhaus tied for 55th with 76-77-71--224, while sophomore Will Hogan was 81st at 74-73-81--228, and senior Scott Glenn finished 85th after carding 78-74-77--229. Matt Stauch of Florida Southern was wire-to-wire medalist, notching 68-65-71--204, 12-under-par.
MSU is back in action Mar. 15-16 at the Louisiana Tech Classic.
