STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Missouri State baseball team lost a pair of games Friday at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., falling 8-2 to Wright State (6-8) in the early contest and 8-2 to Oklahoma State (11-2) in the second game of the day. The Bears fell to 5-13 with the two defeats.
The Bears are scheduled to Wright State again at 1 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. In the event of a postponement Saturday, MSU will play WSU at 12 p.m. Sunday and OSU immediately following that contest.
Wright State Recap The Raiders opened the top of the first with five consecutive singles, coming away with three runs after two singles drove in runs and
Aaron Meade (0-3) balked a runner home for a quick 3-0 deficit.
A two-out error in the third opened the door for the Raiders to add to their lead. Following the error, Garrett Gray singled and moved to second when the Bears threw to third to try and get the lead runner, and Aaron Field knocked a two-run single to make it 5-0.
Beau Stoker put Missouri State on the scoreboard in the fifth, bombing a two-run home run with one out to drive in
Luke Voit and pull the score to 5-2.
A pop fly that the wind and sun turned into a double for WSU cost the Bears in the sixth when Casey McGrew grounded a seeing-eye single up the middle for a 6-2 lead. That single ended Meade’s day after 5.1 innings, and
Tyler Bean came in to strike out the first batter he faced before Quentin Cate hit a two-out, two-run double to give the Raiders their largest lead at 8-2.
Bean completed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief and
Sean Toler pitched a scoreless ninth.
Kevin Medrano’s hitting streak ended at 12 games.
Oklahoma State Recap Missouri State jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the first.
Aaron Conway reached on an infield single and Medrano replaced him on first after a fielder’s choice before scoring when
Keenen Maddox tripled to right-center.
MSU starter
Pat Doyle (1-4) held the powerful OSU offense to one hit until the fourth inning, when Dane Phillips swatted a one-out, two-run homer to give the home team a 2-1 lead. The next four Cowboys singled to help OSU plate two more runs and go ahead 4-1.
The scored stayed 4-1 until the sixth, when the Cowboys took advantage of an error to open the inning by hitting a two-run homer with two out to plate a pair of unearned runs. A walk and two singles pushed another run across and chased Doyle from the game after 5.2 frames, as
Blake Barber came in and got Phillips to ground out to keep the score at 7-1 after six frames.
An MSU error on a double play relay to first allowed OSU to score another run in the seventh, and the Bears responded in the eighth by loading the bases with one out on three singles. Conway’s speed turned an inning-ending double play into a fielder’s choice allowed Stoker to score for an 8-2 score. Freshman
Barrett Noirfalise pitched a scoreless eighth for the Bears in his first career mound appearance.
