The Missouri State men's golf team finished fifth Tuesday (Oct. 19) at the Bill Ross/UMKC Intercollegiate at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City, Mo. The Bears, who were paced by sophomore Daily Young and junior Will Hogan, recorded 303-295-296--894 and moved up three places on the final day of the weather-plagued event that finished late in the day Tuesday.
Young shot 72-72-70--214, two under par, to finish second, just a stroke behind medalist Nate Barbee of Kansas, who posted 71-70-72--213. Hogan carded 74-70-74--218 for solo fourth place. Senior Jack Courington was next for MSU with 78-77-77--232 to tie for 47th, while Jordan McLaurin and Matt Cermak tied for 51st and 68th, respectively. McLaurin shot 82-76-75--232 and Cermak had 79-81-80--240. Freshman Nick Langley tied for 58th competing as an individual, shooting 81-75-79--235.
Central Arkansas topped the 14-team field, shooting 295-292-289--876, ten better than Kansas, which had 294-298-294--886. UMKC was third with 888 and UNI fourth with 892, two better than the Bears. Next came Creighton (899), South Dakota State and North Dakota State (908), Nebraska (909), Bradley (911), Oral Roberts (927), Drake (928), North Dakota (931) and South Dakota (955).
The Bears close out their fall season next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 25-26) at the SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate in St. Louis, Mo.
