The Missouri State men’s golf team shot a second round team score of 300 on Saturday at the Ron Smith South Florida Invitational in Dade City, Florida. The Bears’ men dropped to 13th place out of 23 teams with a total of 581 for 36 holes. The three-day event, hosted by South Florida is being played on the par 72, 7,153-yard Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Marquette is leading the team competition after trailing the Bears in round one. Marquette, at 570, enters the final round one stroke ahead of Troy and Middle Tennessee State each at 571. The Bears are one stroke behind three teams, Baylor, Jacksonville State and Austin Peay State tied in ninth place at 579.
Sophomore Jack Courington was low for the Bears in the second round of competition. He posted a one-under-par 71 to finish with a 36-hole total of 147. He is tied for 53rd place individually.
Leading the men after the two rounds is junior Jay McBride with a 36-hole total of 144. He is currently tied in 28th place with rounds of 68-76. Tied in 34th is freshman Jordan McLaurin with rounds of 67-78145.
Also for the Bears were juniors Ryan Weinhaus and Scott Glenn. Weinhaus is tied in 42nd place with rounds of 71-75146 and Glenn carded rounds of 75-79154.
The men will compete in the final round of competition on Sunday. Play will begin at 7:45 a.m. and can be viewed live at www.golfstat.com.
Day 1 Recap
The Missouri State men’s golf team fired a 281 team score to lead the Ron Smith South Florida Invitational in Dade City, Florida after the first 18 holes of play on Friday. The Bears led the 23-team tournament by two strokes over Louisville and Marquette at 283.
The Bears’ men were led in the first round by McLaurin who carded a career low 18-hole score of five-under-par, 67. He finished the day tied in second place, two strokes behind Riley Wheeldon of Louisville.
A stroke behind McLaurin in a tie for sixth place was McBride. McBride shot a season low round of 68, matching his career best score. In third for the men was Weinhaus with a one-under-par 71. Weinhaus posted a career best round of one-under to enter the second day of competition tied in 20th place.
Glenn and Courington carded rounds of 75 and 76, respectively. Glenn finished the day in a tie for 74th individually and Courington was tied in 86th place.
