In its final competition before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, the Missouri State women's golf team placed sixth of 16 teams Monday (Apr. 7) at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. The Bears closed with 308 after shooting 310 and a school-record 293 in Sunday's first 36 holes for a 911 total.

Host Oklahoma claimed the team title by four shots over Arkansas-Little Rock, 885-889, with Kansas finishing third at 898. Iowa State placed fourth at 906 and Wisconsin edged the Bears by a stroke for fifth with 910. Baylor and Oklahoma City (912) tied for seventh with SMU ninth (914) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tenth (917). The rest of the finishers included UTEP (919), Oral Roberts (922), Bucknell (939), North Texas (949), Kennesaw State (959) and Old Dominion (975).

MSU senior Missy Linnens tied for third after firing 74-70-74--218 in three trips around the Jimmie Austin Course at the University of Oklahoma. Senior Lyndsey Adams was next for the Bears with 76-72-76--224, good for 16th place. Junior Amy Phalajivin posted 79-74-76--229 to tie for 29th, while senior Jillian Anthony was 63rd after shooting 81-77-82--240. Sophomore Stacey Rodger was fifth for the Bears and 71st overall with 81-79-82--242. Junior Lindsey Wellenstein shot 82-82-85--249 and tied for 80th. Kendall Dye of Oklahoma and Christy Carter of Oral Roberts shared medalist honors after each fired two-under-par 214.

The Bears return to action next Sunday through Tuesday (Apr. 13-15) at the State Farm MVC Championship at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb.
