Women's Golf in the Hunt Entering Last Round at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Missouri State women's golf team finds itself in contention entering the final round of the Diane Thomason/Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course. The Bears are in third place, eight strokes out of the lead, after posting 300-301--601 on Monday (Sept. 29) in tough conditions at the par-72, 6437-yard layout at the University of Iowa.

Montana State grabbed the first-day lead after shooting 293-300--593, six in front of the host Hawkeyes and eight better than MoState. South Dakota and Southern Mississippi round out the top five in the 16-team field with 602 and 605, respectively.

Junior Coyee Zhang led the way for the Bears the first day, firing 74-72--146 to place her in fifth place, seven behind leader Lauren Greevey of Montana State, while freshman Chloe Bolte is tied for 12th after carding 72-78--150. Senior Kiser Pannier and junior Kyleigh Pfitzner are tied for 20th with 153 totals; Pannier had 79-74 and Pfitzner shot 75-78. Junior Tierney Baumstark is tied for 68th after posting 85-77--162.

The Bears will be looking to claim their second tournament title of the season after winning their own MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial three weeks ago. Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
