Senior Kyle Paul went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including the game-winning double in the seventh inning to give Team Thomas a 6-4 win over Team Mattson and even the Missouri State baseball Fall World Series at 2-2 Thursday at Hammons Field.
Team Thomas jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four frames, getting Paul’s two-out single in the first, a solo home run from Ben Woodbury in the third and RBI hits from Adam Maddox and Brian Brown in the fourth.
Team Mattson battled to within one in the sixth after Curt Courtwright drew a bases loaded walk and Chris Siemer smacked a two-run single. Aaron Conway then scored on a two-out error in the seventh to tie it at 4-4. Conway worked three walks in the game.
Nolan Keane legged out an infield hit and Tyler Ryun walked to set up Paul’s two-run double in the seventh. Ryun then took to the mound, ending the eighth with a strikeout with the bases loaded. Matt Frevent pitched around a leadoff double in the ninth for the save.
Kyle Boschert started for Team Thomas, going five innings and striking out seven while limiting the opposition to three hits.
For Team Mattson, Siemer finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Brayden Drake went 3-for-5 with a double.
Game five of the series is Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at Hammons Field.
