Partain earns MVC Athlete of the Week Honors

Missouri State's Tracy Partain has earned Missouri Valley Conference women's field athlete of the week honors, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Multi-event specialist, Partain won the heptathlon at the Third Annual Audrey Walton Combined events in Columbia, Mo. Partain’s total score of 5,649 automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June. Partain earned second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.73, a mark that surpassed the regional qualifying time of 13.92. She tied for third place in the high jump, earned fourth in the shot put, first in the 200-meter dash, first in the long jump, first in the javelin throw and second in the 800-meter run. Her total score of 5,649 is at the top of the Valley season-best list and also smashed the MSU varsity record by 250 points she set at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., in 2005. The Springfield native also ranks third in the nation in the event entering the weekend.

At Saturday’s 10th Annual Tom Botts Invitational, Partain won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.83. This time surpasses the NCAA regional qualifying mark of 1:00.82 and earns her the chance to compete at the NCAA regional meet in May. Partain’s mark is also the top time in the Valley after the weekend. Partain also took home the win in the high jump, clearing 5-7. In the open 100-meter hurdles, Partain surpassed the regional qualifying mark for the second day in a row and finished second in 13.78. For her outstanding performances on the weekend, Partain was named the Tom Botts Female Athlete of the Meet.

The Missouri State track and field teams travel to Lawrence, Kan., on Thursday, April 20, to compete at the University of Kansas Relays. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, and conclude Saturday, April 22, with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 6:20 p.m.
