Katie Mergenhagen will look to crack the rotation at midfield as a sophomore in 2007. 2006: As a freshman, Mergenhagen played in one contest-- a Bears win over Eastern Illinois (9/17). Background: Mergenhagen was a four-year varsity starter at Park Hill South High, in Riverside, Mo., and guided her team to first-place conference finishes three of her four years. Her senior year, she led her team to an undefeated conference mark, setting a school record. The Park Hill South Panthers also set records for least shots allowed in a season, goals against average for a season and most consecutive shutouts in Mergenhagen's senior year. She holds the individual record in season assists for the conference and for her high school, along with the Park Hill South record for career assists. Mergenhagen was a three-time all-conference first team pick and in her junior campaign, she was awarded conference offensive player of the year. She also competed for her school's basketball team.
