Biography

2015: Castro saw action in 36 games, including 22 starts behind the plate, in his first year with the Bears…Logged four two-hit games in his first five starts as a Bear, Feb. 13-27, hitting 364 (8-for-22)…Hit in a season-best four straight games Feb. 21-27…Clubbed a pair of homers and drove in 17 runs for the year; blasted a grand slam in a 14-4 win over Wright State (March 6) and hit a two-run homer to account all of the Bears’ offense in a 2-0 win at Evansville (April 12)…Drove in six runs over a three-game stretch March 14-17, including a three-RBI day vs. Kansas State (March 15)…Recorded five multi-hit games on the season; scored two runs and drove in two more in a 17-4 win over UALR (Feb. 21).


Background: Joined the Bears as a junior transfer after spending his first two college seasons at Odessa College in Texas...A native of the Dominican Republic, he hit .354 with a home run and 23 runs scored and 28 runs batted-in last spring for the Wranglers...Batted .366 with four homers and 31 RBIs to go along with 28 runs scored as a freshman in 2013...Earned honorable mention All-WJCAC recognition as a rookie, before hitting .281 with three long balls and 15 RBIs in just 19 games with Morehead City of the Coastal Plain League this past summer.
