At Missouri State: As a senior captain and school-record holder in the 200 and 400 IM, Willoughby will once again be a force in the MVC and will push the younger swimmers to the next level.
2010-11: For the third straight year, Willoughby finished the season ranked first among MSU swimmers in the 200 and 400 IM. She was also in the top-five in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 back and 200 breast. At the MVC Championships, Willoughby defended her 200 IM title and not only broke the MSU record, but the MVC and championship records as well. The Fort Carson, Colo. native grabbed the silver medal in the 400 IM and was a member of the first-place 400 medley relay squad. For her performances, Willoughby garnered All-MVC first team accolades and also was named to the 2010-11 MVC Scholar-Athlete squad.
2009-10: Willoughby solidified herself as the top IMer in the MVC at the conference championship meet. Her times of 2:05.58 in the 200 IM and 4:26.80 in the 400 IM won first and second place, respectively. She also placed third in the 200 breast (2:22.77). As a sophomore, she was an MVC Scholar-Athlete and was named to the All-MVC first team for the second year in-a-row.
2008-09: Willoughby was one of the Bears[apos] top swimmers as a freshman. She set the MSU record in the 400 IM at the 2009 MVC Championships with a time of 4:26.54, winning the conference title in the event. Willoughby also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.50, which was third all-time at Missouri State. As a freshman, she was named MSU Freshman of the Year and was an All-MVC first team selection.
Background: Willoughby attended high school in three different states including Hawaii, Illinois and Colorado. As a freshman, she lettered in swimming and water polo and set the Leilehua (Hawaii) High JV school record in the 200 IM and 100 back, also earning Best JV Swimmer honors. She spent her sophomore and junior years at Carterville High and placed 15th in the 200 IM at the Illinois girls state meet her junior campaign. As a senior, she wasm under John Rork at Fountain-Fort Carson High in Colorado.
Personal: Brianna Lynn Willoughby is the daughter of Monty and Nancy Willoughby. She was born on April 24, 1990 in Colorado Springs, Colo. She has one brother, Zach, and one sister, Olivia. She is majoring in dietetics.
