FINAL Results
WATERLOO, Ill. -- Missouri State climbed three spots on the final day of competition here Tuesday at the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship to secure runner-up honors in their final MVC appearance.
The Bears (310-292-303--905) were well off the pace of tournament champion Illinois State (290-289-295--874) on the par 72 course at Annbriar, but outdistanced fellow frontrunners Drake (906) and Bradley (907) by the narrowest of margins with Evansville (915) and Belmont (922) rounding out the upper division.
Missouri State entered the final round of the 54-hole event in fifth place after beginning the tournament in sixth after Sunday's opening round.
Leading the way for the Bears was
Kyleigh Pfitzner whose final-round 73 (+1) paced MoState's charge with
Kiser Pannier (76), Jiayi Zhang (77) and
Tierney Baumstark (77) providing valuable support on the final 18.Â
For the tournament, Pannier (76-73-76--225), Zhang (78-72-77--227) and Pfitzner (82-73-73--228) all finished in the top 20, posting final places of 12th, 14th and 17th, respectively.
Zhang was named to the All-MVC team for the first time.
Pfizner was one of three players in the tournament to record an eagle, carding a 3 on the par-5 fifth hold Tuesday. She also posted 32 even-par rounds for the event -- ninth best in the field of 71.Â
Bradley's Jillian Cosler (71-72-72--215) won the individual title with a one-under par total, two strokes ahead of UNI's Anna Jensen (74-74-69--217). Cosler is just the seventh Bradley player to win the MVC individual title.
MoState ends its 43-year run in the Gateway/Missouri Valley with five team titles and four runner-up placings with three top-two finishes in the last four seasons.
