A pair of junior standouts have signed to join the Missouri State women's golf program for the 2026-27 season. Head coach
Kevin Kane has announced the addition of Clementina Castaño (kas-TAHN-yo) of General Pico, Argentina, and Josey Roberts of Ozark, Mo. to his team for next year.
Castaño currently is ranked no. 691 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and is the second-rated junior in Argentina. Just this past season, she was ranked first in the country and earned spots in the Junior Orange Bowl Invitational, Junior World Championship and the World Junior Championship. Earlier this month, she captured the Club Amancay title in Argentina and, in the past year, has won the Women's Argentina Open, placed second in the country's national junior championship and Argentina National Championship, and finished third in the Copa Enrique Santos. In all, Castaño has racked up 16 top-five finishes in WAGR events over the past two seasons.
Roberts is coming off a successful summer season in which she won the prestigious St. Louis Junior Invitational and finished eighth at the Optimist International Junior Championship in Miami. She captured four other individual titles over the summer and then enjoyed a record-setting high school season which culminated in a fourth-place finish at the Missouri Class 4 Championship for the third time. Along the way, she fired an eight-under-par 62 at Horton Smith Golf Course in Springfield to set the Missouri State High School Athletic Association mark for best score ever on a par-70 course. Roberts also placed herself in the top five all-time in Missouri with a pair of 65's during the season and captured medalist honors six times in eight tournaments.
"I'm so excited about these two becoming Bears, one from a different hemisphere and the other right in our back yard," Kane said. "They both have the ability to make an immediate impact on our program and in Conference USA, and are not only outstanding players, but even better people. Clementina has lots of tournament experience, not only in her home country, but internationally as well. She's enjoyed success around the world and closer to home and is one of the best players in Argentina. And Josey is the classic late-bloomer...hampered in previous years with injuries from playing basketball. But this past summer, when she was healthy and focusing on golf, she showed how good she can be. We're thrilled to keep her close to home."
The Bears are coming off a fall season in which they won their own Payne Stewart Memorial, finished fourth at Missouri and set a school record in their final tournament in Hot Springs, Ark. They'll open the spring portion of their schedule February 16-17 at the Great River Cup in Gulfport, Miss.
