WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Freshman Clementina Castaño paced the Missouri State women's golf team Tuesday in its season opener at the Boilermaker Classic. Playing in her first collegiate tournament, the Argentinian tied for 30th, shooting 78-74-74--226 in three trips around the Kampen-Cosler Course at Purdue University.
The Bears tied for 15th in the field loaded with some of the nation's top-ranked teams, posting 311-311-307--929 to tie with Abilene Christian, a shot behind Ball State and two behind Little Rock. Miami claimed the team title in a two-way shootout with Ole Miss, 854-859, while Missippi State placed third, followed by Purdue, North Florida, Louisville, Kent State, Rutgers, Indiana and Western Kentucky rounding out the top 10.
Senior Tierney Baumstark was second for Mo State and tied for 44th overall after carding 78-75-77--230, while senior Kyleigh Pfitzner shot 78-81-79--238. Sophomore Chloe Bolte tied for 78th with 81-81-77--239 and freshman Josey Roberts recorded 77-83-83--243.
The Bears are idle the next two weeks before returning to action Sept. 21-22 at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
