COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team finished second Tuesday (Sept. 22) at the Johnie Imes Invitational at the Club at Old Hawthorne. The Bears were sparked by a second-round seven-under-par 281 Monday afternoon after posting 302 in the morning and then closed out with a 291 for an 874 total for the tournament.
Senior Kyleigh Pfitzner led the way for MoState, tying for fifth after firing a career-best 66 in the second round, sandwiched between a 76 and 75, for a 217 total, also a career-best. Senior Tierney Baumstark and sophomore Chloe Bolte tied for eighth for MSU at 219; Baumstark shot 73-69-77 and Bolte 73-73-73.
Freshman Clementina Castano posted 80-73-71--224 to place 15th, one spot ahead of freshman Josey Roberts, who carded 81-74-72--227. Senior Coyee Zhang finished another shot back with 81-75-72--228 and tied for 19th. Junior Siena Minor was 31st after shooting 78-78-78--234.
Host Missouri claimed the team title with 842 with West Georgia finishing third behind the Bears at 896. South Dakota State placed fourth with 900, followed by South Dakota (927), UAB and Lindenwood (933), East Texas A&M (936) and McLennan (947).
The Bears are back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 28-29) at the Diane Thomason/Hawkeye Invitational at Davenport Country Club in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
