SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State University has recently offered a contract extension to women's soccer head coach Kirk Nelson, the university announced (Thursday). The new agreement, finalized by Director of Athletics Patrick Ransdell, will keep Nelson at the helm of the Bears through the 2027 season.
Nelson owns a 37-14-10 record in his three seasons as head coach of the Bears. Under his leadership, MoState has recorded back-to-back unbeaten Missouri Valley Conference seasons, two MVC Tournament championships, and the first-ever regular-season conference title in the program's history. The Bears have also made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament and maintained a team grade point average of at least 3.75 or higher each season.
"Kirk is a difference maker who has elevated the profile of the program and made an immediate impact," said Ransdell. "We look forward to seeing him lead our women's soccer team for many years to come."
Nelson's contract was formally approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its February meeting.
"Missouri State and the Springfield community have been my family's home for many years," Nelson said. "My son, Brock, will graduate from MoState this May and my daughter, Brynn, will be a freshman here as a member of the STUNT team this fall. We are a family of Bears. That is why I am excited and proud to continue to be a part of this program. It is full of amazing student-athletes, coaches and staff, who are incredible people. That is what makes it so special. Thank you to Cory, Sara, Landon and Chad for standing beside me always. Thank you to the administration for guiding me and the program. Heartfelt thanks to my wife, Michele, because none of this would happen without your love and support. I can't wait for the coming years and Conference USA."
Missouri State officially joins Conference USA on July 1.
