Holmberg Wins, Bears Second at Twin Oaks Intercollegiate

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Tim Holmberg picked up his first collegiate victory and the Missouri State men's golf team placed second Tuesday (Mar. 18) at the ninth annual Twin Oaks Intercollegiate. The junior from Uppsala, Sweden tied the tournament record with a seven-under-par 206 performance on rounds of 66-67-73, three strokes better than runner-up Will Simpson of SIU-Edwardsville. Holmberg's outing tied the Bears' Max Kreikemeier's 206 total from a year ago when he also won medalist honors.

As a team, the Bears shot a final-round 293 and finished in second place with a 863 total, nine behind team champion SIUE, which rallied with a 282 final round for 854 in three trips around the par-71, 6739-yard Twin Oaks Country Club. Northern Iowa and Omaha tied for third with 868 and Western Illinois rounded our the top five in the 12-team field with 870.

Individually for MSU, junior Christian Rischer and senior Ludvig Wijkstrom, playing as an individual, tied for 15th at 218, five-over-par. Rischer carded rounds of 74-72-72 and Wijkstrom had 72-74-72. Freshman Jonathan Jordan tied for 22nd after shooting 72-73-74--219, with sophomore Owen Swearingen a shot behind in 28th place as he posted 74-72-74--220. Sophomore Andrew Falls tallied 74-74-78--226 to tie for 55th and Max Bowman finished 70th with 82-76-76--234.

The Bears are off next week, but return to action at the Memphis Memorial Tournament, Mar. 31-Apr. 1.
