Women's Golf Posts Top-Five Finish at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team moved up a spot in Tuesday's (Sept. 24) final round to post a top-five finish at the Johnie Imes Invitational. The Bears shot their second consecutive 301 to finish the rain-shortened tournament with a 602 total at the Club at Old Hawthorne and fifth-place finish in the 13-team field.

MSU sophomore Coyee Zhang continued her outstanding play with a third-place finish after taking runner-up honors in the season opener two weeks ago. Zhang carded 70-75--145, one-over-par, six behind medalist Amelie Alcantara of Florida Gulf Coast, and is averaging 71.40 in her first five rounds of the season.

Junior Kiser Pannier was next for the Bears, shooting 78-72--150 to place 18th, while sophomore Tierney Baumstark shot 72-82--154 to finish 39th. Senior Helena Bel posted 81-75--156 and tied for 46th with freshman teammate Siena Minor, who had 80-76. Sophomore Kyleigh Pfitzner finished 56th with 81-79--160.

Florida Gulf Coast cruised to the team championship by posting 287-288--575, 15 better than runner-up and host Missouri. Illinois State and Bradley tied for third at 599, three ahead of the Bears. 

Austin Peay finished sixth with 605, followed by Morehead State and Howard (608), Eastern Kentucky (609), Omaha (613), Barry (619), Drake (620) and Murray State (624).

MSU is back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) at the Diane Thomason/Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
