Final Results
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team finished fourth Tuesday (Sept. 10) in its season opener at Twin Oaks Country Club. The Bears posted a final-round 302 in windy conditions to finish with an 890 total at their own MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial.
Sophomore
Coyee Zhang took second place in the medalist race, firing 67-73-72--212, one-under-par for the tournament, to lead the way for MSU. Sophomore
Kyleigh Pfitzner was next for the Bears, tying for 15th with 74-74-79--227, one shot better than teammates
Helena Bel and
Tierney Baumstark. Bel tallied 74-76-78 for the tournament while Baumstark shot 76-79-73.
Junior
Kiser Pannier and freshman
Marlee Edgeman tied for 26th with 230 totals, with freshman
Siena Minor two strokes back at 232 and freshman
Tori Gardner at 241. Medalist honors went to Omaha's Katie Ruge, who shot a seven-under-par 206 in three rounds at the par 71, 6070-yard course.
Omaha also captured the team title, breaking out from a tie entering the day to outdistance runners-up North Dakota State and Oral Roberts by nine strokes. The Mavericks posted 294-284-294--872 with ORU and NDSU recording 881. The Bears placed fourth, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (905), Creighton (910), Oklahoma City (923), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (938), Drury (945), Western Illinois (948), Lindenwood (950) and Southern Indiana (967).
The Bears are idle next week before returning to action Sept. 23-24 at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
