SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State swimming & diving is set for its first home meet of the season as it hosts crosstown rival Drury University on Friday, Oct. 25 at Hammons Student Center Pool starting at 5:00 p.m. The Bears will then compete against the Panthers at Breech Pool the following day starting at 1:00 p.m. Both meets will be available to follow on

Diving events will run concurrently at the opposite school each day. Friday's diving events will be at Breech Pool and Saturday's events will be at Hammons Student Center Pool.
Bears Splashes (Women)
- Missouri State women's swimming & diving comes to Springfield fresh off its meet against Arkansas in Fayetteville last Thursday. The Razorbacks defeated the Bears, 138-99, to extend Arkansas' winning streak over MoState to 12 meets.
- Fifth-year swimmer Samantha Roemer enters the meet with the best time among Missouri Valley Conference competitors this season in the 100-yard butterfly (55.31) against Southern Illinois (Oct. 5). She owns the team's top two times in the event this season. She swam a 55.88 time in the 100 fly against Arkansas (Oct. 17).
- Four women's swimmers own event wins so far this season all against SIU. Roemer won the 100 fly with her MVC-leading time. Senior Payton Smith won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.97), which is the fifth-fastest time in the MVC this season. Sophomore Lindsey Hervey won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:30.64), which is also the fifth-best time in the league. Sophomore Makenzie Kurre won the 50-yard freestyle (24.30), which is 11th in the conference.
Bears Splashes (Men)
- Missouri State men's swimming & diving will be back in action for the first time since the two-day meet at Southern Illinois three weeks ago. The Bears defeated the Salukis 200-151.
- Senior Brunno Suzuki-Tomiyama was named MVC Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 9 after their performance at Southern Illinois. Suzuki-Tomiyama won the 500-yard freestyle with an MVC-leading time of 4:36.75. He also holds the league's top times in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:45.34) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.42).
- Freshman Gonzalo Ruiz was also named MVC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 9 for his performance at Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium after sweeping the 100-yard backstroke (50.33) and 200 back (1:47.61), both of which lead The Valley.
- Luigi Maciel da Silva swept the 100-yard breaststroke (55.27) and 200 breast (2:02.52) against Southern Illinois. His 100 breast time leads the conference.
- Senior Reese Hodgins holds the top MVC time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.92) that he earned to win the event at SIU.Â
- Newcomer Simeon Sabev won his first event as a Bear in Carbondale in the 100-yard butterfly with a league-best time of 50.17. Junior Chris Bedsole has the top MVC time in the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.79).
- Junior Jack Grandy holds the fastest MVC time in the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.91) by .05 seconds over SIU's Alex Cimera.Â
Series History vs. Drury
- MSU women's swimming & diving is 15-20 all-time against Drury. The Bears went 2-0 in the home-and-home series against Drury last season.
- MSU men's swimming & diving is 23-21 all-time against the Panthers. The teams split their matchups last season with the home team winning each meet in January.
Scouting the Panthers
- Drury men's swimming & diving finished second at the NCAA Division II National Championships last year, finishing behind Tampa and ahead of Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis.
- Drury women's swimming & diving finished third at the DII National Championships last season behind Nova Southeastern and Colorado Mesa.Â
- The women's team opened its 2024-25 season with a loss at Arkansas, 140-94. Its divers then competed at the Don Leas Invitational and Clarion Fall Classic in Clarion, Pa.
- The men's team opened the year with a road win against Missouri S&T, 142-63. Its diver also competed in Clarion along with the women.
- Senior Mellie Wijk has the fastest GLVC time in the 200 IM (2:05.36).
Head Coach Dave Collins
- Missouri State swimming & diving head coach Dave Collins enters his 14th season and will look for his 13th women's conference championship and fourth men's league title. He has been named MVC Swimming Coach of the Year eight times, including each of the last five years. He was also a five-time MAC Swimming Coach of the Year.
