Freshman Edgeman Leads Bears on First Day in South Carolina

EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. -- Freshman Marlee Edgeman fired a pair of 74's to pave the way for the Missouri State women's golf team Monday (Oct. 14) at the Edisto Island Invitational at the Plantation Course at Edisto Beach. The newcomer from Marshfield, Mo. carded six birdies and an eagle on the day and sits in a tie for 19th place through the first 36 holes.

The Bears were on the verge of contention through the first 27 holes, but faltered on the final nine holes to end up sixth in the 16-team field at the end of the day with 293-302 for a 595 total. Host College of Charleston has the team lead with 573, while Northern Arizona is second at 578. Stetson (581), Jacksonville (585) and Georgia State (586) round out the top five just ahead of MSU.

Individually, sophomores Tierney Baumstark and Coyee Zhang are second for the Bears and tied for 29th overall after posting 150 totals; Baumstark shot 72-78 and Zhang 75-75. Senior Helena Bel is a shot behind and tied for 34th after shooting 72-79--151, and junior Kiser Pannier is tied for 44th at 78-75--153.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a 9:15 a.m. ET shotgun start.
