JACKSON, Tenn. -- Senior
Hampus Wijkstrom carded 13 birdies and an eagle in 36 holes Monday (Sept. 18) to fire 67-65--132 and lead the Missouri State men's golf team on the first day of the Grover Page Classic at Jackson Country Club. Wijkstrom's 12-under-par total has him leading the tournament and the Bears in fourth place as a team entering Tuesday's final round.
MSU will enter the last round seven shots behind leader and tournament host UT-Martin (557) after posting 287-277--564 in Monday's play, 12 under as a team. Wijkstrom has a three-stroke lead over Jackson Skeen of Tennessee Tech. SIU-Edwardsville is second at 561 with Presbyterian third with 563, then the Bears, Belmont and Tennessee Tech (569). Samford, Murray State, Austin Peay and Southeastern Louisiana round out the top 10 in the 14-team field.
Sophomore
Christian Rischer was one under par on the day for the Bears, shooting 74-69--143, and is tied for 16th place, while senior
Max Kreikemeier was even par with 73-71--144 and tied for 23rd. Senior
Eric Schuessler is a shot behind after shooting 73-72--145 and freshman
Max Bowman carded 76-74--150. Freshman
Andrew Fallis had 76-70--146 while playing as an individual.
Tuesday's play is scheduled for an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
