Track Bears Wrap Up Day Two in California

AZUSA, Calif. – The Missouri State Track and Field team completed the second day of competition here Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Rachel Lacey wrapped up the two-day heptathlon to start the day for the Bears finishing third out of her flight of 21 competitors. Her point total of 4,560 was highlighted by second place finishes in the javelin throw (39.35m) and 200-meter dash (25.77). Lacey also recorded a top-three finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.28 meters. In the high jump the junior multi athlete tied for eighth place, leaping to a height of 1.52 meters.Â
Thursday also kicked off the Bears' track events as Shelby Palmer represented the team in the 10,000-meter open. The senior raced a time of 36:35.39 to finish in 31st place out of her section of 49 athletes. The time eclipses her former personal best by 11 seconds which she raced at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships last season.Â
In the 800-meter open, Claudrice McKoy and Ashley Rolewicz put forth a strong showing for MSU, as McKoy finished 55th and Rolewicz, 75th, out of the deep field of 144 athletes. Their respective times of 2:14.48 and 2:16.00 were both less than one second away from lifetime bests. In the 800-meter invite, Dar also turned out a performance that was just shy of her lifetime best racing a time of 2:12.00. Â
The rest of the Bears will continue action tomorrow on day three of the invitational. Track events are set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT) while field action will kick off at the same time.Â
