A pair of golf standouts from Sweden will be joining the Missouri State men's team for the 2023-24 season. Head coach
Neal Stafford has announced the signing of Hampus and Ludvig Wijkstrom, brothers from Saltsjobaden, Sweden, to letters of intent to continue their careers with the Bears.
Hampus Wijkstrom will be a transfer from Augusta University in Georgia, where he's averaged 74.14 so far this season, but is coming off a 73-67-70--210, six-under-par performance, last week at the Dorado Beach Collegiate. After a highly-decorated junior career in Sweden, he posted a 73.71 scoring average as a freshman at Augusta and a 74.71 mark a year ago.
Ludvig will be transferring from Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif., where the university is closing its doors after this academic year. He's a sophomore averaging just over 75 this season, but is coming off a season-best 16th-place finish at the Fujikara Invitational in Vista, Calif. last month. He tied for 24th at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout and placed 35th at the Chico State Classic as a freshman.
"I couldn't be more thrilled about the addition of Hampus and Ludvig to the Bears Golf family for next season," said Stafford. "I had developed a relationship with Hampus and his family while recruiting him out of Sweden four years ago and have followed his career closely at Augusta. When Holy Names announced their unfortunate closing, the opportunity to allow Hampus and Ludvig to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing on the same college team came together! The combination of a solid returning core, two exciting freshmen in Max Bowman and Andrew Fallis, and two veteran transfers should prove to get the Bears back to the top of the Valley."
MSU is currently competing in its third tournament of the spring, the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Houston, Texas.
