Gillund, Schuessler Pacing Bears in Arizona

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Austin Gillund and Eric Schuessler are leading the way for the Missouri State men's golf team through two rounds of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. Gillund fired a 69 and Schuessler a 72 on Monday (Feb. 27) as the two are tied for 12th and 24th, respectively, with one round to on Tuesday.

A senior from Clinton, Mo., Gillund opened with a one-over-par 73 on Sunday and sits at 142, two under for the tournament, while Schuessler has posted a pair of 72's and is at 144 with 18 holes to play. Senior Max Kreikemeier is tied for 63rd with 74-75--149, while JP Lavalle is 71st with 77-73--150 and Carter Lee is 79th with 76-76--152.

Teamwise, MSU is 13th in the 19-team field after two rounds, but is just three shots out of the top 10 and only nine from the top five, having posted 295-289--584. Wright State leads by the slimmest of margins with a 566 total, one better than Utah Valley and Marquette. Bucknell and George Mason (575) are tied for fourth, with Marshall (576), Loyola, Md. (577), Southern Illinois (578), and Drake and Howard (581) rounding out the top 10 on a tightly-bunched leaderboard.

Tuesday final round is scheduled for a 7:45 a.m. start, local time.
