KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri State's Aadne Bruseth and Kian Yari have been named 2022 Division I Men's Players to Watch by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced this week.
Bruseth was one of 30 Division I forwards named to the list, entering his fifth season with the Bears. In 2021, the Batnfjordsøra, Norway, native appeared in all 19 games while making 17 starts. He scored one goal over his 1,289 minutes on the pitch, while adding five assists.
Yari is named as one of the organization's Midfielders to Watch, after a breakout junior campaign in which he started 18 of the Bears' 19 matches while logging a total of 1,447 minutes. During the 2021 season, he led MSU in assists with eight, tallying two against Central Arkansas. Yari ended the season tied for most assists in the MVC, earning the distinction of Midfielder of the Year. His efforts on and off the field led him to be named both an All-American and a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
The pair will be part of a core of returning players for Missouri State this fall who has garnered preseason recognition both nationally and at the conference level. MSU will start its season ranked 19th in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, as well as picked as the favorite to win the MVC crown.
The Bears kick off the 2022 regular season at home against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Admission is free at all Missouri State University home soccer matches.
